SHELBY — Sarah Lois Melton Smith, 88, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013.Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday at Sand Plains Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC. Marilyn Meeks
GAFFNEY — Marilyn Meeks, age 59, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Crowe's Mortuary.

FOREST CITY — Patricia Ann Davis, age 65, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Thompson's Mortuary, Inc. of Forest City.
 
James Logan
SPINDALE — James Auston Logan, age 80, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m., at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Spindale. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
 
Dorothy  Williams Briscoe
Dorothy  Williams Briscoe, age 80, of Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Oak Springs Baptist Church and served as church organist and assistant pianist for many years. Dorothy was retired from Mastercraft. 
She was preceded in death by three sisters; Faye Washburn, Iva Williams and Bernice Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years of marriage, Jack Simpson Briscoe; one daughter, Evelyn Langley and her husband, Nelson of Old Fort, NC; one son, Jack Stewart  Briscoe and his wife, Sandra of Rutherfordton, NC; two granddaughters, Kate Hayes and Rosemary Grant; one great granddaughter Lilly Grant; two sisters, Frances Shepard of Bostic, NC and Hazel Shires of Forest City, NC; and one brother, Paul Williams of Raleigh, NC.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Oak Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013, with Rev. Don Hollifield, Rev. Dr. Robert Toney and Rev. Ray Hooper officiating. Interment will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nancy Lancaster
EASLEY — Nancy Trout Lancaster, 86, formerly of Rutherfordton, NC, and wife of the late James Neal Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Regency Hospital.
Born in Rutherfordton, NC, Mrs. Lancaster was a daughter of the late Andy Alton and Anna Morris Trout. She had worked for 13 years as a service representative for Southern Bell and was a member of Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Jim Lancaster and wife, Jill of Easley; a sister, Aileen Martin; and two grandchildren, Kyle Lancaster  and wife, Brittany and Dorie Lancaster. 
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lancaster was predeceased by three brothers, Glenn, George and Guye Trout.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Henry Ford Gurley
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC — Memorial Services for Mr. Henry Ford Gurley, 90, who entered into rest February 5, 2013, will be conducted Friday evening at 6 o’clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Chaplain John Bower will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. 
Mr. Gurley, a native of Forest City, North Carolina, and a former resident of Charleston, made North Augusta his home for the past 52 years. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict and a graduate of University of North Carolina. Mr. Gurley was the founder and operator of Gurley’s Supermarkets throughout the CSRA. 
Mr. Gurley was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances D. Gurley and his second wife, Genevieve H. Gurley.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Clara Gurley of Harlem, Raymond and Shannon Gurley of Augusta, Steve and Sue Gurley of North Augusta, Doug and Angie Gurley of Beech Island and Greg and Michelle Gurley of Thomson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bill Benton of Trenton, Brenda and Bruce Haislip of Lincolnton; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Russell Gurley of Tampa, FL.

John Westley Robertson
John Westley Robertson, age 90, of Spindale, died Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Carolina House.
He is survived by his daughter, Avis Radford; three grandchildren, Sharon Conley, Karen Edwards and Tessa Radford; six great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his wife Alma Arrowood Robertson and parents, James Carl and Hester L. Robertson.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9 at Community Worship Center, Spindale with R.L. Jeffords officiating.
