RUTHERFORDTON – Mrs. Esther B. Hodge, age 76, died Friday, December 14, 2012. A celebration of life will be held at the Hodge residence at 11am Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Grace of God Rescue Mission, 537 W. Main St., Forest City, NC 28043. Crowe’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Katherine Gladys McDonald Sisk, 83, of Charlotte passed away December 13th, 2012 surrounded by her family. Katherine was a native of Forest City, North Carolina in Rutherford County and youngest daughter of Cautus and Ella Mae Head McDonald. She was a long time member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in which she was a member of the Presbyterian Women. Katherine worked at Collins Department Store in Forest City, NC. Katherine was an owner of J. Jay’s Tops N’ Bottoms, a ladies clothing store for over 20 years.
Katherine enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, nature and having company.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jack DeWitt Sisk, her brothers Carl ‘Ted’ Walker McDonald and Paul Dennis McDonald.
Katherine is survived by daughter, Deborah Taylor and husband, George of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Gail Gause and husband, Tim of Cramerton, NC, daughter, Pamela Wall and husband, Howard of Belmont, NC, daughter, Karen Sisk of Charlotte, NC and daughter, Susan Reynolds and husband Paul Reynolds of Crouse, NC; his grandchildren Leslie Taylor Helms and husband Roy, G. Gordon Taylor IV, J. Grant Gause, J. Greer Gause, Ian Wall and wife Beth, Jack Galen Wall, Ben Wall and wife Ashley; great granddaughters Ellie and Peyton Helms of Charlotte, NC; sister, Una McDonald Beam of Bostic, NC; extended family The Sutton’s of Charlotte, NC; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Mary Holley, Carolyn Williams and the staff of Alexandria Place in Gastonia, NC for their loving support and friendship. Also, thanks to the many friends, neighbors and loved ones who have been so kind and supportive through the years.
The family will receive friends at Paw Creek Presbyterian on Monday from 2:00pm till 3:30pm, December 17th, 2012 in the Church Parlor. The funeral will be held at the Church at 4:00pm and graveside service will be at the Church cemetery immediately following the service, the Reverend Gary Bryant officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Paw Creek Center for the Arts, P.O. Box 64 Paw Creek, NC. Arrangements are in care of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly, North Carolina.
