UNICOI, TN — Richard H. "Dick" Young, Jr., age 75, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013. A graveside service for will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ellenboro, NC. Cliffside Masonic Lodge # 460 F&AM will also provide last rites at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the graveside service at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Hazel Jackson
RUTHERFORDTON — Hazel Burnett Jackson, 82, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013. The Funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, at Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m., Saturday night at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.
 
Anthony Spangler, Jr.
RUTHERFORDTON — Anthony Spangler, Jr., age 30, died Sunday, April 7, 2013. Memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m., Saturday at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring or the family of Mr. Spangler.
 
George William Poteat, Sr.
George William Poteat, Sr., 93, of Edwards Street, Rutherfordton, NC, left this earth on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, to enjoy sunsets in Heaven with the love of his life, Dot (Dorothy) Reece Poteat, and walk the streets with his Lord Jesus Christ.
George was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton and worked at Spindale Mills for over 50 years as Plant Engineer. He enjoyed family vacations, his wife's companionship and her great cooking, playing cards, and dancing with all of their friends. He liked gardening and enjoyed walking at Crestview Park in Rutherfordton until he moved to Carolina House two months ago at age 93. At Carolina House, he enjoyed entertaining residents by playing his harmonica and piano.
He was the grandson of the late Posey Poteat of Marion and the son of the late Frank Poteat of Marion and the late Johnnie Mae Bridges Poteat of Polkville. George was also preceded in death by a brother Seaph Poteat of Spindale. 
He leaves behind to meet him later: his children, George Poteat, Jr. and wife, Denise of Bostic, Linda Poteat Rhame of Asheville, Cindy Poteat Booth and husband, Bill of Rutherfordton, Amy Poteat Moye and husband, Steve of Mount Olive, NC; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Pam, Paul, Lea, Kelly, Katie, Ginny and Braxton; three great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and very, very close friends, Betty Wease, Jacob Lambert, and Mary Richardson.
The family would like to thank all his past and present friends, Carolina House and especially Hospice for their wonderful care.

The visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at McMahan's Funeral Home followed by a short service at 6:30 in McMahan's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dean Baughn, Rev. Tim Marsh and Mike Lawing officiating. Burial will follow at sunset in the Rutherfordton City Cemetery, weather permitting with military rites accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard and bag pipes by Cameron Nixon.

Steve Henry Champion, Sr.
Steve Henry Champion, Sr. age 64, of Forest City, NC, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Steve was born October 29, 1948, in Rutherford County, NC, to the late John H. Champion and Ina Mae Price Champion. He worked in textiles for many years and was the co-owner of Steve’s Auto Service in Bostic. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and tinkering with old cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Chandler Sky Champion.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Champion and wife, Dale of Cliffside, Steve Champion, Jr. and wife, Danielle and Mark Champion and wife, Crystal all of Ellenboro; one daughter, Maria Hudson and husband, Grady of Ellenboro; the mother of his children, Katie Greenlee Champion; two brothers, Carl Burgin Champion and wife, Darlene of Forest City and John Champion and wife, Vivian of Bostic; one sister, Judy Edwards and husband, Mike of Forest City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Haylee Champion, Gelica Champion, Jesi Huckabee and husband, Brent, Raven Champion, Cobie Champion, Codie Champion, Kaitlyn Champion, Kyle Champion; one step-granddaughter, Ashlie Hudson; one great granddaughter, Kamryn Jolly and one unborn great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Philbeck and Reverend Jason Toney officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with his good friends, Mitchell Rowe, Eddie “Creed” Burns, Kenny Taylor, Ray Butler, Larry Burns and Troy Stanley serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
