RUTHERFORD COUNTY —
BOSTIC — Roy Ryals, 57, died Sunday, January 13, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Village Chapel in Forest City. The family will receive friends following the service.
FOREST CITY — Debbie Lovelace, age 47, of Forest City, NC, died January 7, 2013. Memorial services will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial donations will be announced in Wednesday's Daily Courier. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for the family of Mrs. Lovelace.
FOREST CITY — Chris Towery, age 59, died Monday, January 14, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Harrelson Funeral Home.
FOREST CITY — Annette Wilkerson Marks, age 71, died Saturday, January 12, 2013. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by The Padgett and King Mortuary.
FOREST CITY — Mary Gene Lindsey, age 78, died Saturday, January 12, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Old Dunbar School in Forest City. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Gaynell Tipton Roper
Gaynell Tipton Roper, 86, of Rutherfordton, ended her journey in life and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2013.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a graduate of RS Central High School. She was a long time member of Main Street Baptist Church in Spindale, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Choir. For many years, she was the manager of the Doncaster/Tanner Fabric Shop, and had a lifelong passion for sewing.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Roper Beard and husband, Richard Beard of Rutherford; one granddaughter Maegan Beard, of Auburn, Alabama; a sister, Jean Carpenter, of Rutherfordton; and a large and devoted family that will continue to cherish her memory, and remember her strengths, her wit, and her compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Roper; her two brothers, Earl and Alvin Tipton; and one sister, Vearl Tipton Daniel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, at 12 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Rick Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Devue Hall Harris
Devue Hall Harris, age 84, of the Montford Cove Community in Marion, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, January 13, 2013 following a brief illness.
She was born on February 11, 1928, in Marion, NC, to the late Cleveland Hall and Belle Morgan Hall. She was the widow of Clarence A. Harris who died in 1975.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles D. Hall, Rev. Millard F. Hall and Wayne C. Hall; three sisters, Clara Hall Greene, Jeanette Hall Davis and Faye Hall Marlowe; and her son-in-law, Vann E. Wall. Devue was a loving mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend.
Devue spent her childhood years in the East Marion Community. She attended East Marion Elementary and Marion High School. She also worked in textiles at Marion Manufacturing. After marrying Clarence A. Harris in 1946, she moved to the Montford Cove Community where she spent the remainder of her years. She also worked at C.P. Clare in Asheville. She would later work at Baxter Healthcare until she retired in 1990. Devue was an active member of Montford Cove Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
Devue loved spending time with her family, especially yearly vacations in Gatlinburg. She loved working in her yard and flowers, cooking and sewing. She particularly loved taking family pictures where four generations were represented. Her greatest joy, however, was her great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Harris Wall of Marion; grandson, Chad Wall and wife, Kate of Union Mills; granddaughter, Heather Wall Thompson and husband, Chris of Marion; five great grandchildren, Malarie and Micajah Wall, Makenzie, Mason and Madelyn Thompson; one sister, Margaret Hall Toney of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Emma Harris Davis of Rutherfordton. A number of cousins and a host of friends also survive.
The family will receive friends at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Montford Cove Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Johnnie L. McCraw
Johnnie L. McCraw, age 86, of Goodes Creek Church Road, Mooresboro, NC, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at his residence.
Johnnie was born February 17, 1926, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Thomas Pate McCraw and Ethel Belle Short McCraw. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy on the USS Kilty. He later worked for Burlington Industries for 47 years before his retirement. He was a faithful member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, on the cemetery board and usher. He was famously known as the “man who passed out the church bulletins.” He enjoyed gardening, hummingbirds, and going to the flea market. He was a kind and humble man with a great sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Edith Louise Oliver McCraw; three brothers, Claude McCraw, Winfred “Skip” McCraw and Dean McCraw; two sisters, Pearlie Whisnant and Eva Arrowood.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth McCraw and wife, Marty of Ellenboro and Danny McCraw and wife, Sherry of Mooresboro; five daughters, Deborah Barker and husband, Phillip of Mooresboro, Janet Arrowood and husband, Randy of Mooresboro, Donna Pruett and husband, Jimmy of Ellenboro, Karen Carpenter and husband, Spencer of Cliffside and Amy Greene and husband, Claude of Gilkey. He is also survived by one sister, Carolyn Arrowood and husband, Leonard of Cliffside, nine grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Goodes Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Glenn Walker and Reverend Robert Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Billy David Harris
Mr. Billy David Harris, 57, of Cherryville, NC, died Tuesday, January 12, 2013.
He was a native of Cleveland County and the son of the late B. J. Harris. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Warren Deal; sister, Joyce Putnam; brothers-in-law, Richard Harris, Sr. & Larry Barnes, Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Harris.
Mr. Harris was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he was part of the handy-man ministry. He worked as retail manager at Corral Western Store. He loved spending time with his family; camping and boating at Lake James; taking vacations, riding horses and carpentry.
He is survived by his mother, Katie Jolley Harris; wife of 34 years, Robin Deal, of the home; daughters, Shannon Harris Martin and husband, Brandon of McAdenville, Kelli Harris Huggins and husband, Heath of Morganton, Mary Ellen Harris Pike and husband, Adam of Gastonia; grandchildren, Hannah Huggins and Grant Martin; brother, Jerry Harris and wife, Gayle of Casar; sisters, Barbara Cromer and husband, Billy and Peggy Barnes of Cliffside, brother-in-law, Bill Putnam of Cliffside; mother-in-law, Ramona Deal of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Tuesday at 2 p.m., with Dr. Rit Varriale officiating. Visitation will be held following the service at Elizabeth Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mary Alice Bledsoe Saylor
Mrs. Mary Alice Bledsoe Saylor age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 14, 2013, while being cared for at
Mrs. Saylor was born April 1, 1917, in Lee County Virginia to the late Bud and Sarah Carmaney Bledsoe. She was a home
maker and was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl B. Saylor.
She is survived by two sons Jimmy Miller of Bostic and Eddy Morris of Rutherfordton; one daughter Betty Thompson of
Bostic; one sister Geraldine Blackwell of Cleveland, TN and five generations of grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday January 16, 2013, at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neil Murray and
Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Wednesday prior to the services.
Burial will be at Eternal Hills.
