Joyce Hutchins
BOWDEN, ND — Joyce Hutchins, age 67, died December 10, 2012. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Green Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.
 
Clyde Shehan
SPINDALE — Clyde Shehan, age 82, died January the 7, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Piedmont Baptist Church. 
 
Alan C. Martin 
GREER, SC — Alan Christopher Martin, 44, of 517 Mt. Vernon Road, died January 6, 2013, at his home.
A native of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, son of Julius “Jeep” V. Martin and his wife, Dr. Johnnie Martin and the late Nancy Rhymer Martin, he was a former North Carolina State Trooper and a member of Freedom Fellowship.
Also surviving are his wife, Candy Stroud Martin of the home; three children, Miranda Martin and Julie Martin both of Ellenboro, North Carolina and Brett Carson of Greer; two brothers, Vic Martin of Rutherfordton, North Carolina and Travis Martin of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Mark Fentress and Rev. Cliff Marshall. Visitation will be held after the service at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Ralph J. Bridges 
Mr. Ralph J. Bridges, 91, of Bostic, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at Hospice House, Forest City.
He was the widower of Dorcas "Dot" Bridges. Ralph was a former Deacon, Music Director and Sunday School Teacher at Walls Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of WWII, and had most recently worked at Wal Mart.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Bridges and his wife Carolyn, of Bostic, and Grant Bridges and his wife Lois, of Unicoi, TN; three grandchildren, Anissa Hill and her husband Dale, Patrick Bridges and his wife Natalie, and Jonathan Bridges; there are three great grandchildren, Ryan Hill, Jordan Bridges, and Destiny Bridges.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Walls Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Philbeck will officiate. The Visitation will be from 5 pm until 7 pm Wednesday at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral and Cremation Service.

Harvey P. Pegram, Jr. 
Harvey P. Pegram, Jr., age 79, of East Park Road, Ellenboro, NC, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Harvey was born May 29, 1933, in Guilford County, NC, to the late Harvey P. Pegram, Sr. and Fern West Pegram. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked for J.C. Cowan/Burlington Industries as an electrical engineer for 42 years before his retirement. He also owned and operated the East End Auto Body Shop for several years. His favorite pastime was working and paying bills.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Ruby Champion Pegram; one daughter, Ellen Pegram Hoppes; three sons, Keith Pegram, Scott Pegram and wife, Lori, Rodney Pegram and wife, Cheryl all of Ellenboro; and one sister, Evelina Matthews of Burlington, NC. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend William Swink officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ervin Chivous Neal
Ervin Chivous Neal, age 86, of Hollywood Street, Forest City, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at Fairhaven Home where he was a resident.  
He was a  native of Rutherford County and a son of the late C.P. and Annie Pearl McKinney Neal and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Forest City. Ervin was a general contractor and worked first with his father in the family contracting company of C.P. Neal and Son in Forest City and retired from Morrison Construction Company. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II. Ervin was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty DeBrule Neal in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Quinn Neal of the home; a son, Timothy V. Neal of Bostic; a daughter, Marsha Neal of Chapel Hill; a brother, Bob Neal of Raleigh;  three step-children, Janie Bowen of Forest City, April Carver of Norfolk, VA, and Gene Sisk of Forest City; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013, at twelve o'clock noon in the Race Path Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Mike Cash, the Reverend Karen Gray and the Reverend Allen Hall officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:30 until 11:30 at The Padgett and King Mortuary.

James Lee McSwain
James Lee McSwain, age 70, known as “Sonny”, of 170 Proctor School Road, Mooresboro, North Carolina, passed on Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at Hospice of Rutherford County, Forest City, North Carolina.
Son of the late Custom McSwain and the late Margaret Mercer, he was born on March 10, 1942, in Cliffside, North Carolina. He was a member of Haynes Grove Baptist Church. James was a graduate of Carver High School in Spindale, North Carolina and a veteran of United States Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Ms. Penny McSwain of Forest City, North Carolina, and Ms. Jaimesha Davidson of Gaffney; one son, Cody Logan, Virginia Beach, Virginia; six sisters, Mrs. Mary Reddin  and husband,, Marion of Durham, North Carolina, Ms. Dolly Dewberry of Sandy Mush, North Carolina, Ms. Diane Watkins, Ms. Mickey Miller, Mrs. Gigi McSwain  and husband, Larry of Caroleen, North Carolina, Mrs. Pamela Logan  and husband, Travis of Forest City, North Carolina; four brothers, Ennas McSwain  and wife, Edna of Washington, D.C., Michael Watkins  and wife, Gloria of Hickory, North Carolina, Chuck McSwain  and wife, Renee of Avondale, North Carolina, and Rodney McSwain of Hickory, North Carolina; five grandchildren; one special aunt, Mrs. Roberta Robbs of Gaffney; a special friend, Mrs. Shirley McSwain; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 13, at 3 p.m. at New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, Forest City, North Carolina. Rev. Leroy Staley and Bishop Willie Rookard will officiate. Interment will follow in Haynes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cliffside, North Carolina.
