Brenda Kay Geer

RUTHERFORDTON— Brenda Kay Geer of Rutherfordton, died Friday, February 21, 2014. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by McMahan's Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving the family. 

 

Sally Ellen Barnes O'Sullivan

FOREST CITY— Sally Ellen Barnes O'Sullivan, age 62, of Forest City, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Baptist Church in Ellenboro. Crowe's Mortuary and Crematory is serving the family. 

 

Joel Baxter Morris

FOREST CITY— Joel Baxter Morris, age 67, of Forest City, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014. At his request, no formal service is planned. The Padgett and King Mortuary is serving the family. 

 

 

Gladys Byers

Gladys Byers, age 88, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Autumn Care. 

Born April 27, 1925 in Spartanburg County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Hammett and Lisher Blackwell Hammett.  Gladys was a graduate of Harris High School and worked in the dietary service of Willow Ridge Nursing Home and Rutherford Hospital for many years.  She was a faithful and longtime member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Gladys enjoyed sewing, needlework, canning and especially taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Clayton Katy Byers; two infant daughters; brother, Bufford Hammett; four sisters, Julia Oliver, Bulah Cartee, Alice McDaniel and Beatrice Henson.

Survivors include two sons, Clayton Eugene Byers of Forest City and Randy Byers and wife, Rhonda of Ellenboro; seven daughters, Betty Ann Byers of Rutherfordton, Margaret McDaniel of Dallas, NC, Sophie Sinclair Cooper and husband, Cooper of Campobello, SC, Barbara Hodge and husband, Ronnie of Rutherfordton, Mary Frashier and husband, Mark of Rutherfordton, Debra Frashier and husband, Dean of Forest City and Vicky Hollifield and husband, Ted also of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Holly Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Wade Huntley and Reverend Tim Hodge officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Cella Price Leach

Cella Price Leach, 90, of Hick’s Grove Road, Mooresboro, died on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Cherokee County, South Carolina, she was born on Saturday, May 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Crowder and Sally Thrift Price. She was a homemaker and member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church. She loved to cook, sew and crotchet.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Artice Leach. She is survived by her sons, Willard Leach and wife Joann of Mooresboro and Steve Leach and wife Gail of Cliffside; three daughters, Shirley Deviney and husband Tom of Forest City, Carolyn McDaniel and companion James of Shiloh, and Dawn Parris and husband Robin of Mooresboro; twelve grandchildren, including one special grandson, Jamie McDaniel who she raised in the home; sixteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; her caregiver and special friend, Paulette Burleson.

A Celebration of Mrs. Leach’s Life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Hick’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Don McEntire and Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service.

Mary Lucille Buff

Mary Lucille Buff, age 80, of Bradley Loop Road, Ellenboro, NC, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born April 13, 1933 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Joe Fowler Adair and Molly Ida Price Adair.  Lucille’s life was consumed with taking care of her family.  She was a dedicated wife to her husband who served in the US Army for over twenty years and was a loving mother and grandmother.  She was a member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, drawing, painting and ceramics.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joe Buff; two brothers, Joe Adair, Marshall Adair and two sisters, Frances Gowan and Margaret Phillips.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Elbert Buff; three daughters, Freda Lynch of Cashiers, NC, Donna Waters and husband, Johnny of Ellenboro and Patti Bridges and husband, David of Bessemer City; two sons, Dale Buff and wife, Becky of Forest City and Matthew Buff of Ellenboro; brother, Elbert Eugene Adair and wife, Sharon of Forest City and sister, Emma Toms and husband, Jerry of Camden, SC.  She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel.  Interment will follow in Hicks Grove Baptist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
