Mary Gordon
Mary Dee Cole Gordon, 85, died March 31, 2013. Visitation is from 6  to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston and at other times at the home of Danny & Jane Gordon, 3431 Robert Cornwell Road, Lawndale. The funeral service is at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church, 1541 Harris Holly Spring Road, Rutherfordton, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150. Arrangements by Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
 
Daniel Yount
Daniel Loyd Yount, age 28, of Forest City, NC, died Sunday, March 31, 2013.  A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is caring the family of Mr. Yount.
 
Johnny Leon Holtsclaw
ELLENBORO — Johnny Leon Holtsclaw, 77, of Dobbinsville Extension, Ellenboro, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at SECU Hospice House of Rutherford County. 
A native of Rutherford County, he was born on June 12, 1935, a son of the late Oakley Geter Holtsclaw and Ella Mae Allread Holtsclaw. He retired from PPG Industries after 30 years of service. He was also a United States Army Veteran and member of Race Path Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Toney Holtsclaw. 
He is survived by his sons, Johnny Holtsclaw and wife, Trudy of Ellenboro, Robby Holtsclaw and wife, Susan of Bostic, Dale Holtsclaw and wife, LaBreeska of Forest City, and Danny Holtsclaw and wife, Janet of Ellenboro; his sisters, Della Elizabeth Moore of Caroleen, Geretha Mae Walker of Caroleen, Ethel Loretha Garver of Lincolnton, and Carolyn Yvonne Greene of Hickory; his grandchildren, Felicia Hamrick and husband, Jeremy, Jessica Holtsclaw, Leslie Wall and husband, Charlie, Robby Holtsclaw, Jr. and wife, Brandi, Justin Holtsclaw and Landon Holtsclaw; and his great grandchildren, Bryson Hamrick, Emma Holtsclaw, and Madeline Wall.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Holtsclaw will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 03. 2013, at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 02, 2013, at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service and at other times at the home of Dale and LeBreeska Holtsclaw, 472 Sunset Memorial Road, Forest City, NC 28043.

Becky Curtis
FOREST CITY, NC — Rebecca Sue "Becky" Curtis, age 68, of Arlington Street, Forest City, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.  
She was born August 23, 1944, in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Vassey and Mary Sue Lancaster Yelton. Becky was a homemaker and a member of Forest City Church of the Nazarene. 
Her sister, Martha Williams and brothers, Jim Yelton and Bill Lancaster preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Howard Curtis of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Scott Curtis of Middleburg, VA and William Gregory Curtis of South Dakota; a loving daughter-in-law, Patricia Curtis of Forest City; sisters, Polly Myers of Nashville, TN and Dolly Lauf of Bismarck, ND. There is also a grandson, Nicholas Curtis of Houston, TX and her special niece, Susie William Allen of Forest City.
A service from the graveside will be held at four o'clock, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in the Cool Springs Cemetery with Reverend Dale Austin officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the cemetery.

Merrill D. Hampton
WICHITA, KS — Merrill D. Hampton, age 87, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Rutherford County died Thursday, March 28, 2013, in Wichita.  
He was a native of Rutherford County and was the son of the late Miles and Lavonia Hampton. He was the widower of Marjorie Hampton. He was also preceded in death by a sister Dr. Mary Ann Taylor.  
Merrill was a member of the U.S. Army in WWII and was a member of the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Air Force as well as retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Brittain Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Lenzi and husband, Richard of Wichita, KS; two grandsons, Brandon and Jason Lenzi of Wichita KS; four great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Taylor of Winston Salem, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at McMahan's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at Brittain Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2013, with Rev. Bill Kirk officiating. Burial with military rites accorded by the Rutherford
County Honor Guard will be in church cemetery.
