John Clark Summey

John Clark "Sharky" Summey, 68, of Ellenboro, died Monday, November 25, 2013. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Race Path Baptist Church. Visitation will be held immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. McKinney-Landreth and Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family.

 

Melvin Odell Stover

Melvin Odell Stover, 70, of Polk County, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Louise Thompson

Louise Thompson, age 81 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away at Hospice House of Rutherford County on November 24, in Forest City, NC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and retired from Penn University as a research technician in Philadelphia. 

Louise was the daughter of the late Gassaway and Nancy Hampton Thompson and was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Thompson. She is survived by one brother, Stinson Thompson Sr. and his wife Shirley, and an abundance of other loving family members. 

Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, November 30 at 1 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Rev. Howard Jamal Edwards will officiate. Interment will be at Oak Grove Church Cemetery. 

Thompson Mortuary is in charge of services. 

 

 

 

John Clark "Sharky" Summey

John Clark “Sharky” Summey, 68, of Ferree Road, Ellenboro, died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at SECU Hospice House of Rutherford County. A native of Rutherford County, he was born on June 19, 1945, a son of the late John Graham Summey and wife Ethel Summey of Ellenboro and the late Lucille Phillips Smith. He was retired from P.P.G. and was a member of Race Path Baptist Church. He was also a pilot, President of J.C. Summey, Inc., and member of the FAA (Federal Aviation Association).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Trina Summey. In addition to his step-mother, he is survived by his wife, Delores Lee Summey; one son, Timothy Clark Summey of Patterson Springs; one step-son, Gary Eugene Putnam, Jr. And wife LaRae of Forest City; one step-daughter, Christy Greene of Ellenboro; one brother, Claude Summey and wife Charlotte of Hickory; two sisters, Bonnie Ann Tessneer and husband Richard of Grover and Jennie Lou Bailey and husband Doug of Green Creek; his grandchildren, Justin Clark Millwood, Amanda Lowe, Lindsey Jones, Jordan Putnam, Jennifer Lockridge, Haleigh Summey, and Julie-Anne Putnam; his great grandchildren, Emma Henson, Brantley Jones, Keeton Milne, Lucas Henson, and Cameron Milne; one special nephew, John “Butch” Summey; many pilot friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Cooper, Rev. John Godfrey, and Rev. Ken Linder officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the serving the fellowship hall.

Joseph Lamer Willis 

Mr. Joseph Lamer Willis, 86, of Bostic, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Hospice House, Forest City.

He was widower of Wilma Sain Willis, and son of the late Marcus and Minnie Downs Willis, and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Noris Willis and Marcus Jack Willis. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, and a member of the Fallston Lodge of the Masons. Joe was a WWII Navy Veteran, an amateur Ham radio operator, and a Hospice of Rutherford County Volunteer since 1998.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Jo Willis Kincaid and her husband Jeffrey, of Lenoir; a sister, Hilda S. Willis of Belwood; two brothers, Kenneth Willis and Cecil Willis, also of Belwood; two granddaughters, Megan Jo Holtzclaw Brooks and her husband Joel, of Ellisville, MS, and Mara Renee Holtzclaw of Morganton; there is a great granddaughter, Ella Renee Brooks.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Tony Moreau will officiate, and eulogies will be spoken by Rita Burch, Ann Hutchins, and Wayne Webb.

The graveside service will be held at approximately 3:00 pm at St. Peter's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 18, Belwood, following the procession from Salem UMC.  Reid Medlin will render Masonic Rites at the graveside.

The visitation will be from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm Saturday in the Salem UMC Sanctuary, prior to the service.

Onnie Hardin Carver 

Onnie Hardin Carver, age 91 of Long Branch Road, Forest City and former longtime resident of Charles Street, Forest City died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her residence.  She was born October 3, 1922 in Cleveland County and was a daughter of the late Horace Lee and Melissa Alviney Burgin Hardin.  Onnie graduated from Cool Springs High School with honors, was a longtime member of Missionary Wesleyan Church, Forest City and was a proud grade mother when both of her children were in school and formerly worked with her late husband in the V.F. W.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Carver and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her two children,  Randy Carver and fiancée, Gail Bailey of Shelby, and Debbie Carver Jones and husband Jeff of Forest City.  There are also  five grandchildren, Justin Carver, Randi-Morgan Carver, Skylar Carver, Joshua Jones and Breann Walker, four  great-grandchildren, Alexander Jones, Isabella Jones, Madeleine Jones and Alexis Walker.

 

The family will hold a private service in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Chris Fox officiating with private interment in the Cool Springs Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
