SHELBY— Jacqueline T. Hanners, age 60, of Shelby, died Thursday, February 20, 2014. Services will be at a later date and announced by the family. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family.

 

 

Deborah "Debbie" Vinesett Anthony

SHELBY— Deborah "Debbie" Vinesett Anthony, age 59, of Shelby, died Sunday, February 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon at the church and other times at her home. Burial will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church, 2207 Flint Hill Church Road, Shelby NC 28152. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family.

 

 

 

Rufus F. Johnson

FOREST CITY— Rufus F. Johnson, age 58, of Forest City, died Sunday, February 23, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel AME Zion in Forest City. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Bethel AME Zion Church 263 Forest Street Forest City. Crowe's Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family.

 

 

 

Judith Miriam (Mimi) McDonald Kelly

Judith Miriam (Mimi) McDonald Kelly, wife of her beloved husband of almost 10 years, Terence George Kelly of Roswell, GA, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014. She was born January 9, 1965 in Chesterfield, SC.

Mimi grew up in Woodruff, SC and Rock Hill, SC. She was a 1983 graduate of Northwestern High School and a 1987 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a business and marketing degree.

Mimi began her career with G.E. Capitol in Charlotte and later in Atlanta. She was currently employed as a customer service supervisor at Waste Management in Marietta, GA. From childhood, Mimi was active in her church. She was a member of Roswell United Methodist Church in Roswell, GA, where she was active in the Job Networking ministry, Bible study and the Quilt ministry. She enjoyed doing needlework, most of which she gave to friends and relatives. She was an avid reader. She treasured her husband, her family and friends. She endeared herself to all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her parents Russell and Doris Taylor McDonald of Rock Hill, SC; her sister Karen McDonald Whipple (Lance), niece Caroline Whipple, nephew Bradley Whipple all of Kennesaw, GA, an aunt Nancy McDonald Nichols (Nick) of Forest City, NC; an aunt Peggy Taylor Mayse (Ray) of Bostic, NC, uncle Johnny M. Taylor, Jr. (Catherine) of Forest City, NC; uncle G. Tommy Taylor (Janice) of Ellenboro, NC; her brother in law John Kelly (Patricia) of Hoschton, GA and several cousins.

She is predeceased by her Grandparents Kenneth T. and Vivian N. McDonald, John M., Sr. and Esther Wilson Taylor of Forest City, NC; an aunt Sibyl McDonald Grasfeder, brother in law James Kelly.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA 30075.

On Saturday, March 1at 11:00 am, a graveside internment service will be held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 250 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043.

Bonnie Sue Ford Gerth

Bonnie Sue Ford Gerth, age 60, of Rutherfordton, NC, died February 22, 2014 at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville, TN.

Born December 19, 1953 in Confluence, PA, she was a native of Virginia Beach, VA but spent the last 22 years residing in Rutherfordton.  She was the daughter of Edna Ford and the late Benjamin Ford.

She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Thomas Gerth; three daughters, Katrina Smith, Shanda Carter and husband Zack, Monica Treme and husband Dustin; one son, Thomas Gerth and wife Victoria; two sisters, Brenda Higginbotham and Cheryl Carpenter; two brothers, David Ford and the late Wayne Ford; 9 granddaughters and 4 grandsons; lots of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm, Sunday, March 2nd prior to the service at Adaville Baptist Church in Spindale, NC, with the Rev. Ron Wilkins officiating.

Peggy Haynes Lowery

Peggy Haynes Lowery, age 76, of Caroleen, NC, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born November 15, 1937 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Vance Haynes and Gussie Lee Spakes Haynes.  A graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1955, she worked for J. C. Cowan for over 30 years as a lab technician.  Peggy enjoyed being a homemaker and taking good care of her family. She was a Methodist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bobby Eugene Lowery and by brother, Claude Haynes and sister, Hazel Suggs.

Survivors include two daughters, Terri Brackett of Forest City and Sharon Brigman and husband, Brian of Ellenboro; three grandchildren, Stephen Deyton, Lacy Brigman and Kyle Brigman all of Ellenboro and a number of extended family members.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend David Hawkins officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Brenda Kay Geer 

Brenda Kay Geer, age 64, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at home.

A native of Rutherford County she was a member of Southern Baptist Church. Brenda was retired from Bell South as a telephone operator.  She was a graduate of R S Central High School and the daughter of the late J. V. Geer. She was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Maddox.

Survivors include one sister, Pat Keeter and her husband John; her Mother, Flossie Geer; sister-in-law, Ciadi Maddox; nieces, Lyn Keeter Fletcher, Sonja Maddox Drury, Monica Maddox Richey and great Nieces and nephews; Meg Fletcher, Jay Fletcher, Brecken Richey, Gabriella and Sophia Drury.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, prior to the service at Southern. The Funeral service will be at Southern Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 with Rev. John Perry officiating. Interment will be at Southern Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jennie Lou Hamrick

Jennie Lou Hamrick, age 99 and a former resident of Westhaven Street, Forest City died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Carolina House where she was resident since 2005. She was born in Forest City on September 15, 1914 and was a daughter of the late George Plato and Mollie Agatha Huntley Doggett.  She was a homemaker, a faithful member of Florence Baptist Church where for many years she was Sunday School Department Secretary. Jennie Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Von Hamrick Sr. in 1999 and her brothers and sisters, Mollie Agatha Doggett, Herman Newton Doggett, Annie Mae Sherrill, Lillian Viola Allen, and George Willie Doggett.

Survivors include a son, Von Hamrick, Jr. and wife Catherine of Winston-Salem, NC, and her grandson, John Knox Hamrick of Clemmons, NC .

A graveside service will be held at two o'clock Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.  Visitation will follow the service at the cemetery on Wednesday.  Memorials may be made to Florence Baptist Church, Building Fund, 201 South Broadway Street, Forest City, NC 28043 or Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
