Ida Johnson "Maw" Harris

RUTHERFORDTON— Ida Johnson "Maw" Harris, age 62, of Rutherfordton, died February 25, 2014. Memorial services were held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at 109 Quinn Road in Henrietta. Robert S. Morgan Jr., Funeral Service License L.L.C is serving the family.

FOREST CITY— Joe F. Love of Forest City, died February 26, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services is serving the family.

 

 

 

Etta Cogdell Hoyle

Etta Cogdell Hoyle, 91, of Bostic, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Hospice House.

A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Allen and Rebecca Hoyle Cogdell. She was retired from the furniture industry and was a member of Cherry Mountain Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Georgia Bridges and husband Claude of Ellenboro, Lorene Williams and husband Clyde of Cherryville, Helen Ellenburg of Bostic, Ellen Hoyle of Bostic; sons John Hoyle and wife Shirley of Forest City, William Hoyle and wife Brenda of Bostic; sisters Agnes Beam of Forest City, Helen Baker of Morganton; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hezekiah Hoyle, brothers Odell Cogdell, Claude Cogdell and sisters Betty Jo Pope and Georgia Lee Cogdell Chapman.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, March 5 at Crowe’s Mortuary with Rev. Billy Cogdell and Rev. Danny Black officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Mountain Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

Lisa Greene

Lisa Greene, age 57, of Bostic, NC, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1956 in Bainbridge, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Gene Spratt and Jeanelle Ledford Spratt.  Lisa worked in the textile industry for many years and also as a CNA and a massage therapist for several years.

She enjoyed spending time outdoors which included flower gardening, camping and feeding hummingbirds. Lisa was a Baptist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Spratt and Ricky Spratt.

Survivors include her husband of almost thirty years, Doug Greene; daughter, Holly Bridges of Lawndale; son, Shane Greene of Naples, FL; five grandchildren, Dana Bridges, Luke Bridges, Sara Bridges, Isabel Greene, Sean Greene and great-grandchild, Hunter Owens.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Terry White officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043.

Frank M. Toney

Frank M. Toney, age 77, of Bostic, NC, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.

Born June 18, 1936 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Greely Toney and Alice Campbell Toney. Frank worked as a carpenter most of his life and was a truck driver for many years.  He was a charter member of Ross Hill Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Laura Mae Toney and son, Ray Dean Toney. 

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Yelton of Bostic and Lisa McCarthy and husband, Bobby of Shelby; two sons, Phillip Toney and Keith Toney and wife, Brandy all of Bostic; sister, Betty Sandefur and brother, Ralph Toney both of Bostic. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Ross Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Wheeler and Reverend Earl Godfrey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.

Dennis Alton Greene

Dennis Alton Greene, 91, of Rutherfordton passed away on Sunday, March 02, 2014 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Black Mountain. He was born in Cleveland County, NC to the late William Robert Greene and George Ann Gosey Greene. He was retired from textiles and a member of Southern Baptist Church. Dennis was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Marie Thomas Greene.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons Michael Greene and wife Judy of Gastonia and Charles Greene and wife Debra of Lincolnton, NC, grandchildren Richard Horne and wife Traci, Jennifer Smith Griggs and husband Ben, Karen Heston, Haley Greene Hester and husband Luke, and Heath Jordan Greene, great-grandchildren Ethan Horne, Abbey Horne, Lauren Smith, Lindsay Smith, Bailey Griggs, Zach Griggs, Ashley Griggs, Ariel Heston, Kaley Heston and Noah Heston, as well as a very special friend and caregiver Elsie Thrift.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Southern Baptist Church with Rev. John Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary.

Bobbie Jones

Bobbie Dean Micthell Jones, 77, of Harris-Henrietta Road, Henrietta, died on Saturday, March 01, 2014 at Carolina’s Medical Center of Charlotte. A native of Rutherford County, she was born on January 10, 1937, a daughter of the late James Robert and Pansy Buckner Mitchell. She retired from Cone Mills Corporation, Cliffside Plant and worked as a CNA at Oakland Living Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Henrietta, loved to sew, work jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth John Jones; four sisters, Thelma Conner, Bessie Harris, Ruth Smart, and Naomi Splawn. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Wayne Jones of Henrietta; one daughter, Anita McCraw of Greenwood, SC; one sister, Pearl Anthony of Rutherfordton; two grandchildren, Teri Jarrell and Tony Jones; two great grandchildren, Morgan Reed and Hayden Powell.

A Celebration of Mrs. Jones’s Life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 05, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Henrietta with the Rev. John Godfrey, Rev. Wesley Smith, and Rev. Tony Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, March 04, 2014 at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service and at other times at the home of Wayne Jones, 185 Hills Creek Drive, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
