Police locate abducted one-year-old in Tennessee
One-year-old Shianne Serenity Lancaster of Spindale has been located after being abducted by a family member on Wednesday.
On Thursday afternoon, law enforcement officers with the Kingsport Police Department in Tennessee, working in conjunction with the Spindale Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, located Shianne at a residence in Kingsport, unharmed and in excellent health.
"What it amounted to was we had knowledge of an area where we thought the child would be and we contacted local agencies in Kingsport," said Spindale Police Chief R.A. McIntosh. "This helped us develop an address based on some names we were given in that area and ultimately locate the child."
The abductor, Kathleen Nicole Lancaster, 27, was taken into custody by Kingsport law enforcement on Thursday.
According to McIntosh, the guardians of the child had a verbal altercation prior to the child's abduction.
Lancaster is currently incarcerated in Kingsport and awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.
"She awaits her hearing Friday morning — whether or not she will waive extradition or we'll have to go the route of a fugitive warrant," McIntosh said.
Shianne remains in the custody of Tennessee Child Protective Services pending her return to family in North Carolina.
