In prepared remarks, Democratic Lt. Gov. candidate Linda Coleman officially conceded the race to Republican Dan Forest on Monday morning.

After trailing Forest following Election Day, Coleman's gap closed following county canvassing.

However, in her remarks Monday, said said that "we face the reality that an extended legal battle would not alter the outcome of this race."

Forest's win puts Republicans in charge of both executive offices in Raleigh, following Pat McCrory's win over Walter Dalton in the gubernatorial election.
