Another big traffic switch on US 221 Friday

Jan. 20, 2013 @ 10:35 AM

The N.C. Department of Transportation will shift traffic onto a new 2-mile section of U.S. 221 from Henson Road to Oakland Road in Rutherford County on Friday, Jan. 25, weather permitting.

The roads most impacted by this traffic shift will be Bridges Farm Road (on the east side of US 221), South Woodleaf Road, North Woodleaf Road, Morningstar Lake Road, Tanner Grove Road and Oakland Road, where traffic will now stop short of where it does presently. In addition, traffic on Bridges Farm Road (on the west side of US  221), Newton-Cole Road, Tom’s Creek Road and Walker Lake Road will be required to use temporary crossovers and stop at a new location beyond where it does presently.

The work is part of a $66.1 million project to widen U.S. 221 from the South Carolina state line to north of the U.S. 74 Bypass in Rutherford County. The project contractor is DeVere Construction Co. of Alpena, Mich.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
