Comedy Tonight! coming to the stage Thursday

Members of the high school section of the Playing For Keeps after school program will present their end of year performance, "Comedy Tonight!" on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Maple Street Theater at The Rutherford Learning Center (old Rutherfordton Elementary School), 134 Maple Street in Rutherfordton. The performance is sponsored by Rutherford County Arts Council and Rutherford County Schools and is free of charge.

Members of the cast are: Layla Thurman, Philip Guadagno, Haley Johnson, Ethan Carlisle, Brady Cannon, Nikki Collin, Tanner Riley, Haden Johnson, Nicole Gettings and Emily Hutchins.

The program will include several Broadway musical numbers, skits, comedy scenes and the famous wooing scene from “The Taming of the Shrew.” “The Coffee House,” a skit created by members of the cast includes the ethereal “Rainy Tuesday,” the enlightening “Word Salad,” and the infamous, horrifying “Chainsaw Turtle.”

Musical numbers include: “Comedy Tonight” (“A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum”), “Hey Look Me Over” (“Wildcats”), “Before The Parade Passes Buy” (“Hello, Dolly”), “Accentuate The Positive,” “I Got Rhythm” (“Girl Crazy”), “Wandering Star” (“Paint Your Wagon”), “Blah, Blah, Blah” (“Delishious”), “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” (“Kiss Me Kate”), “We Open In Venice” (“Kiss Me Kate”), “I Can Do Anything Better Than You” (“Annie Get Your Gun”), “Pick A Little Talk A Little/ Good Night Ladies” (“The Music Man”).
