Sewer replacement project ordinance, county fire service district contract on Spindale agenda

May. 19, 2013 @ 06:45 AM

The Spindale Board of Commissioners will issue a tentative award of contract for the State Revolving Fund (SRF) Sewer Replacement Project, as well as vote on amendment to the project ordinance, during its regular meeting on Monday.

The 2012 SRF sewer project has been bid on and a tentative award of contract is in order so that notification can be sent to the state by June 3. Commissioners will review a detailed report on the project status and options at hand before voting on recommended adjustments to the project ordinance amounts.

In old business, the board will vote on approval of the Planning Board Rules of Procedure. Last month the Planning Board reviewed changes to the rules of procedure per the commissioners' instructions. Changes include a reference to the board's chair as "chairperson" throughout the document.

On this month's agenda, new business includes a public hearing to be conducted by the board regarding a rezoning case on 230 Spindale Street. Commissioners will vote on approval of a zoning map amendment request. The Planning Board reviewed and recommended approval of this request during its May 7 meeting.

Commissioners will also review and vote on approval of the county fire service district contract. The county has submitted the contract to the municipalities with out-of-town areas included in its service districts, and requests action on the contract before the new fiscal year begins July 1.

Another item on the board's agenda is to hear a status report concerning a Minimum Housing Ordinance enforcement case on 140 Cedar Street. After hearing a briefing from Lt. Edwards, commissioners will review the case and before/after photos of the property. The board will consider the owner's request for additional time to continue and complete repairs.

Commissioners will conclude the meeting with appointments to the Enhanced Recycling Committee and Broad River Water Authority Board of Directors.

Mayor Mickey Bland will also discuss appointment of the 2013 Christmas Parade Grand Marshal.

This month's meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Spindale House.
