30 days of prayer will lead into annual conference
Some pastors and spiritual leaders are calling on the people of Rutherford County to join them in 30 days of prayer.
“Awaken” is the theme of the 30 days of prayer, leading up to a weekend prayer conference, April 26-28 at Adaville Baptist Church in Spindale.
Before the prayer conference, “If My People: A Southwest North Carolina Prayer Gathering,” the 30 day call to prayer is an individual devotional prayer focus.
Meeting recently at the Sandy Run Baptist Association (SRBA) office, several pastors talked about the upcoming prayer conference.
“We are calling out to the Lord about revival,” said the Rev. Anton Roos, pastor of Lake Lure Baptist Church.
This is the second major effort in the past two years led by the SRBA pastors and leaders, asking the people in Rutherford County to come together and pray for America.
“This is an all denominational event,” said Roos.
He said pastors from several other churches have expressed an interest although 70 percent are Southern Baptist.
“We are asking all Christian churches to participate,” Roos said.”The whole concept is pastors who have a desire to see our county and nation and and individual churches come together to call on God for repentance,” Roos said. “We are asking people to come before God.”
Guest speakers for the “If My People” prayer conference include Gary Frost, founder, Concert of Prayer, Greater New York; Mark Harris, senior pastor, First Baptist Church,Charlotte; Bob Lowman, executive director, Metrolina Baptist Association, Charlotte; Stephen Matheny, pastor, New Bethel Church in Forest City; Richard Owen Roberts, president International Awakening Ministries, Wheaton, Il. and J. Chris Schofield, director, Office of Prayer, Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Cary.
The sessions are Friday, April 26-Sunday, April 28.
There will be special group sessions for youth.
“Everyone is invited. Those who have a heart for the county, a heart for the church and a heart for God, all are invited,” Roos said.
