Thousands of people braved cold temperatures Thursday night to witness the annual Christmas lighting ceremony in downtown Forest City.

At 7 p.m. 9-year-old Alysa Cape of Forest City helped Forest City Mayor Dennis Tarlton flip a switch that ignited close to a million holiday lights throughout downtown.

Additionally, music by the Singsation Quartet of Charlotte and the Black Coffee Jazz Band could be heard throughout Main Street.

The annual ceremony was recently illustrated in the December issue of Our State magazine. Forest City Town Planner Danielle Withrow said she received calls from South Carolina regarding people planning to attend the event.
