Veterans Day programs Saturday and Monday

LAKE LURE — The Mary B. Mullen Bible Camp volunteers are sponsoring a special "Veterans Day Program" on Nov. 10 at the camp which is located at 1900 Freemantown Road in Lake Lure.  

Plans for the day include  "meeting & greeting" the  veterans at 10 am with coffee and danish; lunch prepared at 12 noon; and a veteran's recognition ceremony at 1:30 followed by gospel singing choirs from local churches including the Lake Lure Community Choir.

All veteran's and friends are welcome. Bring folding chairs. In the event of inclement weather, all actiities will be moved to St. John Missionary Baptist Church (around the corner).

A Salute to Veterans

RUTHERFORDTON  — All veterans and the community are invited to a Veterans Day Celebration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the lawn of the Rutherford County Courthouse. The celebration is being held in conjunction with the town of Rutherfordton's 225th anniversary.

Among the displays will be Vietnam era helicopter, that has been used on the series, The Revolution."  

Dan Hegeman, a member of the 225th committee, said the program will include a time to honor all veterans, a time to learn more about the agencies and organizations that support veterans. Four vehicles from the National Guard will also be on display.


Veterans celebration Monday

FOREST CITY—  Veterans Day Community Celebration will be held Monday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Carolina Conference Center, off Hudlow Road in Forest City. 

The event will begin with the presentation of colors from JMROTC from R-S Central High School and other patriotic highlights to honor the veterans. After a program, refreshments will be served. 


Veterans admitted to Chimney Rock free this weekend

CHIMNEY ROCK —Veterans, reservists and active military personnel are invited to Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, free admission, through Nov. 11.

Chimney Rock wants to honor and thank all veterans for their brave service in protecting America's freedom with a free visit. Come stand on top of Chimney Rock where the American flag flies proudly and witness one of our national treasures.

The Park’s modernized elevator, which reopened in June, provides convenient and handicap access to the Chimney level with stunning 75-mile views on a clear day.
