High Point hospital cutting 115 jobs
High Point Regional Health says it will eliminate 115 positions.
Chief operating officer and executive vice president Dr. Greg Taylor said Thursday that the hospital had implemented as many coast-efficiency ideas as possible before deciding to eliminate the jobs.
The hospital recently became part of the UNC Health Care System. Taylor says the hospital had been "working aggressively" to lower costs, especially on contracts for purchasing and managed care.
Taylor says people don't have the same need for hospital care as they did previously. He cites the emphasis on preventive medicine, management of chronic conditions and efforts to keep people healthy. Taylor says there have been cuts in hospital admissions and a reduction in the number of procedures performed.
He says North Carolina lawmakers' refusal to expand Medicaid also hurt.
