McCrory, former NC governors at Holshouser service
Family, friends and politicians of the past four decades are at a Moore County church to say goodbye to former North Carolina Gov. Jim Holshouser.
Gov. Pat McCrory and previous chief executives Jim Hunt, Mike Easley and Beverly Perdue were in the audience for Friday's memorial service for Holshouser, who died Monday at age 78.
Holshouser was the first Republican elected governor in North Carolina in the 20th century. He served from 1973 to 1977 and ushered in slowly an era of two-party politics after decades of dominance by Democrats.
Hunt said before the service Holshouser was a moderate Republican who reached across the aisle to work with Democrats both during and after his term in office.
U.S. Reps. Howard Coble, Renee Ellmers and Richard Hudson also attended.
