Driving too fast
Two students from REaCH at Isothermal Community College were traveling in a 1999 Isuzu Trooper when the driver, Gabe Jones, 17, of Rutherfordton was driving too fast in a curve and skidded 159 feet before he hit a tree and then traveled another 59 feet into a wooded area where the car came to a stop. Emergency personnel, including Rutherfordton firefighters ,worked more than 30 minutes to remove Gabe from the vehicle. He was taken to Rutherford Regional Medical Center for treatment and his sister, Miranda Gabe, 15, was evaluated at the scene. North Carolina Highway Patrolman Marty McSwain said Jones will be charged, possibly for reckless driving.
