Forest City Council will discuss sewer project
When Forest City Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday at Cool Springs Administrative Office Building, it will discuss the Central Business District Sewer System Rehabilitation Project.
The town intends to construct a wastewater collection system project, described as the replacement of sewer lines and appurtenances to replace the aging and damaged sanitary sewer lines.
Last April, 2011, the town received notification it received a grant for the project and Monday council will proceed to the next step.
Commissioners will need to pass a resolution accepting the $902,700 revolving loan that has been offered by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, with $451,350 in principal for forgiveness.
Also Monday night, council will discuss the town-owned building on East Main Street that is in need of a roof and painting.
The metal roof replacement has a bid of $6,500 from E.S. Walker Construction, Inc., painting, $937.50 by David Wilkie Construction and Forest City Glass, $454.56. There has been $10,000 placed in the General Fund Contingency for the project.
Also Monday, council will approve the Town of Forest City’s Official Check Signatory, which will be the mayor, city manager and finance officer.
Also Monday, a performance bond for Finance Officer Julie Scherer will be approved; the town’s firemen’s roster will be approved, presented by Fire Chief Mark McCurry.
Police Chief Jay Jackson will present an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate to Sgt. Clint Hunter and also Monday, Councilman Steve Holland will present a speed limit request regarding Georgia Avenue.
Spindale Commissioners will talk about sewer study
SPINDALE — Spindale Commissioners will meet for its regular business meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Spindale House.
Commissioners will receive information regarding the joint sewer consolidation study, involving the town of Forest City, Rutherfordton, Lake Lure, Spindale and the Cliffside Sanitary District.
The county manager and municipal managers met recently to conduct a phone conference with the NC Rural Center about the possibility of submitting a joint applications for the project.
Agreement to submit an application will be needed by the town councils by the next deadline cycle of Jan. 31, 2013.
Commissioners will take action on the Clean Water Trust Fund, asking for local government support for the 2013 mission.
The board will receive its 2011-2012 audit from Brian Epley, CPA and will also have a closed session to discuss attorney-client privileges and economic development.
Airport Authority will meet Tuesday
MT. VERNON — The Rutherford County Airport Authority will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the Transportation Improvement Program. at the airport, off Oscar Justice Road.
