Two incumbents, two veterans file for municipal office
Four candidates threw their hats into the political ring on Monday, vying for municipal offices in the Nov. 5 election.
Candidates filing Monday include Mary Ann Dotson-Silvey of Lake Lure; Brett Hooper of Spindale, Steven Webber of Lake Lure and Mike Hollifield of Bostic.
Dotson-Silvey and Hollifield are seeking re-election in their respective towns.
Hooper is a Lt. of Investigations for the Polk County Sheriff's Department and Webber is retired from the US Army.
When municipal filing opened on Friday five mayors, Don Baynard (Ruth), Mickey Bland (Spindale), Jimmy Dancy (Rutherfordton), Bob Keith (Lake Lure) and Dennis Tarlton (Forest City) met at the Board of Elections on Old Fairground Road in Spindale at noon to file for re-election together.
Other town council members filing for re-election on Friday included Stanley Clements and Terry Cobb of Rutherfordton, Steve Holland and Shawn Moore of Forest City, Mike Ellenburg and Chris Adkins of Ruth and John Moore of Lake Lure.
Mayor Mitch Harrill of Bostic is the sixth mayor whose term ends in 2013.
Other town board members up for re-election in 2013 include:
Bostic — Billy Lattimore and Rodger Hall;
Chimney Rock Village — Frank Campbell and Robert Wald;
Ellenboro — Lee Allen, Mike Rhyne and Allen Black;
Spindale — Tommy Hardin and Ed Searcy.
For candidates seeking town council seats, filing for municipal elections closes on Friday, July 19 at noon.
Municipal election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
