Practical Nursing students pinned during special ceremony

Twenty-seven Isothermal Community College practical nursing students were awarded their caps and pins at a special ceremony recently.

The Capping and Pinning Ceremony, held in the sanctuary of Crestview Baptist Church in Forest City, is the traditional graduation event for the students in the Practical Nursing program.

The graduates of the 2013 class are Julie Brooks, Stephanie E. Brooks, Tiffany Michele Butler, Renee Drewery Carlton, Sara Cash, Ivette J. Chavez, Alisa K. Constance, Brooke Logan Corn, Christopher D. Doty, Niesha B. Eash, Melissa R. Galloway, Angelique R. Goodman, Shelby Renee Hardin, Caroline E. Harris, Kaitlin M. Hawkins, Amanda Diane Hill, Jill A. Holloman, Alyssa D. Luckadoo, Makayla A. Luckadoo, Erin Mauney, Maria Rodgriquez, Tyrone Ross, Natasha Rose Sakhnini, Jessica Leigh Stepp, Brittney Stofer, Crystal Tavernia and Kathleen Wright.

After marching in to the traditional processional, “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by organist Gaye Higgins and an invocation by Rev. Robert Wiltshire, the new nurses were welcomed by Dr. Amber Thompson, Isothermal’s dean of Applied Sciences and Technology. April Cline, RN, Practical Nurse Education instructor, spoke to the crowd. Announcements were made by Dr. Debbie Wiltshire, director of the Practical Nursing program, before special music by Shawna Nodine. Dr. Wiltshire presented awards to the class. Throughout the remainder of the ceremony, Dr. Wiltshire was assisted by Cline and Dr. Kim Amos. After the presentation of roses and lamps, Nodine performed during the candle lighting and Rev. Wiltshire gave the benediction.

The class officers were also recognized. They are: Sara Cash, president; Makayla Luckadoo, vice president; Brittney Stofer, secretary; Brooke Corn, treasurer; and Maria Rodriguez, class representative.

The new LPNs, along with faculty, friends and family, enjoyed a reception following the ceremony. The reception was catered by Southern Manners, Patricia Overholts. Roses were provided by Bostic Florist. Rutherford Regional Medical Center’s Nursing Department provided the awards. Town Photography was also on hand to take pictures of the graduates.
