Shots fired during domestic dispute, man arrested
Gary Clark Bolt, 48, of Walls Church Road in Ellenboro, was arrested Friday on multiple charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office responded to a call early Friday morning in reference to a domestic dispute and shots fired at a residence on Walls Church Road.
According to the police report, around 2:14 a.m., a neighbor called 911 and informed the dispatcher that he heard a couple inside the residence arguing and a male subject stating he was going to kill the other subject. The caller also stated he heard multiple gunshots.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they gave verbal commands to the male subject inside the residence, later identified as Bolt, asking him to exit the residence. Deputies also attempted to call Bolt on the residence's phone but got no response, the report indicated.
Bolt was able to get out of the house and flee into the nearby woods, and deputies quickly set up a perimeter surrounding the woods. An hour later, Bolt was located in the woods and arrested.
According to the report, the victim explained to deputies that she arrived home from work at 11:25 p.m. Thursday to find Bolt waiting for her on the back steps of the residence.
The report indicated that Bolt and the victim were in a relationship and living together.
Bolt had been drinking that evening and the couple got into a domestic dispute. The victim tried to reason with him but got back into her car and left the scene. She returned to the residence a few hours later thinking Bolt might have calmed down, the report said.
However, Bolt met her at the back door with a rifle in his hands and a pistol in his pocket. The report stated that he fired several shots inside the house and walked towards her out onto the porch.
During this time deputies pulled into the driveway and Bolt fled back into the house and then out into the woods, where he was apprehended.
Following Bolt's arrest, a police canine located a pistol and rifle with spent rounds in the woods.
Bolt was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, resisting a public officer, two counts of communicating threats and domestic violence protective order violation.
He received a $42,000 secured bond for his charges and is currently in custody at the Rutherford County Jail.
