Police awaiting autopsy reports on teen's death
Law enforcement officers are awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports before talking with the district attorney regarding any charges in the death of a 19-year-old Rutherfordton youth.
Rutherfordton police are continuing the investigation into the death of Jaharri Montrell Miller who died on Sunday, June 22 at 1:18 a.m. at the edge of his driveway on Allen Street.
Sgt. Clint Ingle said the investigation has been ongoing since his death.
Miller was run over by a 2000 Volkswagon driven by a juvenile. The car is registered to Tammy Duncan Clark of Lake Lure. The driver of the vehicle had been in a relationship with Miller in the past, but was an ex-girlfriend, an aunt of Miller said after the incident. Duncan is a mother of one of the juveniles, police said.
Inside the car were four other juveniles — two boys and two girls — all under age 16. Miller's brother was among the juveniles.
According to police reports, the juveniles were at a friend's home in Lake Lure on Saturday night, June 21, and left the house driving the Volkswagon to Allen Street.
Miller was lying in the road at the driveway and numerous interviews have been held regarding the incident and why he was in the roadway.
The car ran over Miller after which there was a scream, the car stopped and a call was made to 911 Communication Center, Sgt. Ingle said when the investigation first began.
