Man charged third degree sex exploitation of minor

On Friday Rutherford County Sheriff Detective Julie Greene, with the assistance of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and officers with the N.C. Department of Probation and Parole charged and arrested 45-year-old, Ollie Eugene McDaniel, of Creek Road, Rutherfordton with one count of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

The investigation of this case began Jan. 17 after an incident report was filed in reference to possible child pornography. 

Cell phones and a laptop computer were seized from McDaniel's residence.

Greene obtained a search warrant for the cell phones and laptop computer. During the examination of the seized items, evidence of sexual exploitation was discovered and a warrant for the arrest of McDaniel was issued. 

McDaniel  is in the Rutherford County Detention Facility and has a $50,000 bond.

Also charged and arrested during this investigation were Margie and Glendale Ruff, of the same residence. They are the mother and stepfather of McDaniel.  

The Ruffs were charged for attempting to hinder the investigation of this case by lying to investigators about the whereabouts of their son and trying to help him evade capture by law enforcement. 

Margie Ruff was charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact and one misdemeanor count of resisting public Officer. Bond was set at $20,000. 

Glendale Ruff was charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting public officer. Bond was set at $1,000.
