Couple released from burn centers
The Union Mills couple who sustained burns last Sunday when their house caught fire has returned home from the burn centers where they recuperated during the past week.
Don and Sylvia Kent, were flown to burns center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where they were treated for several days.
Sylvia Kent was released earlier in the week and Don Kent was scheduled to come home on Friday, said Roger Hollifield, Rutherford County Fire Marshal.
The American Red Cross was called to assist the couple with emergency shelter and other needs. The couple lost everything in their Hudlow Road house that broke out at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 24.
Hollifield and Union Mills Fire Chief Dean Conner said the cause of the fire is still undetermined but its origin was in the attic of the two story home.
The SBI Fire Investigators are assisting in the investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
According to neighbors, the couple moved to Union Mills about six or seven years ago.
