FOREST CITY— Vickie Ann McKinney, age 61, of Airline Road, Forest City, NC, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Vickie was born April 27, 1952 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Buford Henson and Ruby Hames Henson. She was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1970 and also of Isothermal Community College. Vickie worked for the Rutherford County Public Schools as a substitute teacher for over twenty-five years and a member of the Red Hat Society. Vickie was a member of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church and enjoyed reading, decorating, craftwork, cats, singing and she especially loved playing with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Joe Henson and Rondle Henson.
Survivors include her husband of forty-two years, Donald McKinney; one son, Jeremy McKinney and wife, Deanna of Forest City; three brothers, Gene Henson of Forest City, DeWitt Henson and wife, Barbara of Chesnee, SC and Clyde Henson and wife, Shirley of Forest City; two sisters, Barbara Gardner and Betty Waters and husband, Sam all of Forest City. She is also survived by a goddaughter, Lacy Muller of Forest City; two grandchildren, Alexis Swink and husband, Tyler and Triston McKinney; two great-grandchildren, Mckinlee Swink and Macaylee Swink.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Reverend Leon Brown, Reverend Lee Wayne Grubb and Reverend Bob Philbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the church.

FOREST CITY— Datus Michael Ward, SFC,US Army,( Ret). age 64 of Oak Hill Drive , Forest City died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center. He was a native of Rutherford County and was a son of the late Thomas "Shorty" Kiser. Michael was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, Ellenboro where he was active in the Brotherhood and the Youth and Children's Programs. He worked for many years in the East High Band Boosters Club, was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge, the VFW and DAV.
He served his country during the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Silver Star and received two Purple Hearts. He retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class with over 19 years service. Following his Army retirement he worked for All American Homes. Michael also served over 10 years with the Forest City Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Rheba Kaye Ward of the home, a daughter, Michaelle Ward Waters and her husband Scott of Ellenboro, his mother, Mary Quinn Kiser of Forest City, a brother, Bob Ward and wife Anna of Forest City and his grandson, Michael Waters of Ellenboro.
The funeral service will be held at four o'clock Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the Big Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Scott officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the United States Army will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be in the church Fellowship Hall from 2 until 3:45 prior to the service. Members of the Rutherford County Firefighters Honor Guard will serve as Honorary Escort.
