Police investigating homicide in Spindale

One man was murdered early Saturday morning at a sports bar and grill in Spindale. 

The Spindale Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are looking for the person or persons responsible for the death of a 43-year-old employee at Mingle City Sports Bar & Grill.

The victim, James Lee James, 43, of Nebraska Street in Spindale, was working security Mingle City Sports Bar & Grill when he received a fatal single gun shot to the back of his neck, said Spindale Police Chief R.A. McIntosh.

McIntosh said Spindale police responded to a disturbance call at the sports bar and grill, located off U.S. 74A, at 1:30 a.m. and upon arrival a large number of people were exiting the building and were attempting to leave.

The responding officer's attention was called to the male victim who was lying on the ground near a vehicle that was adjacent to the building.

Resuscitation efforts were begun by officers and employees of the establishment.

During the resuscitation, police discovered he had suffered single gunshot wound.

James was transported to Rutherford Regional Medical Center by Rutherford County EMS and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room a short time later.

Spindale police and the SBI are seeking any information regarding the incident.
