Brief bouts of freezing rain, snow for western NC
Forecasters say a storm moving into North Carolina could start with a brief bout of freezing rain in the western part of the state, but temperatures should rise above freezing before there are any serious problems.
The National Weather Service says the freezing rain should start late Tuesday night in the mountains and spread east overnight into areas north of Interstate 40 and Interstate 85. Less than a tenth of an inch of ice is expected on before the temperature rises above 32 degrees.
Forecasters expect heavy rain for much of Tuesday and officials are asking people to clean leaves from gutters and storm drains to prevent flooding.
A quick bout of snow could follow Wednesday, with up to 5 inches in the mountains and a dusting farther east.
