Boykins under $201,000 bond; faces assault charges

A 24-year-old Gypsy Street Forest City man is being held in the Rutherford County Detention Facility under a $201,000 bond after his arrest Monday afternoon.

William Leon Boykins, Jr., faces charges of shooting into a 2004 Ford Explorer occupied by three victims, said Forest City police officers. None of the occupants in the car were injured.

According to Forest City police, they investigated a shooting into an occupied vehicle incident on West Spruce Street near the intersection of McArthur Street, and further investigation identified Boykins as the alleged shooter.  

Officers located Boykins on Gypsy Street at about 12:50 p.m. Monday and he was found to be in possession of a 22-caliber rifle.

Boykins is charged with one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm in the city limits, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Boykins will have his first court appearance today.
