THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY TO PRODUCE HEAVY RAINFALL AT TIMES OVER

THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

 

.A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM SPINNING OVER THE MIDWEST WILL

CONTINUE TO PRODUCE MOIST AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS OVER THE

SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN BRIEF PERIODS

OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH WEDNESDAY...ESPECIALLY

TONIGHT. THESE THUNDERSTORMS MAY PRODUCE SEVERAL ROUNDS OF HEAVY

TO EXCESSIVE RAINFALL...WITH FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS AND

CREEKS POSSIBLE...AND MAIN STEM RIVER FLOODING BECOMING MORE

LIKELY. DRYING FROM THE WEST WILL LIKELY NOT OCCUR UNTIL WEDNESDAY

* THUNDERSTORMS MAY PRODUCE A FEW ROUNDS OF HEAVY RAINFALL...WITH

  POSSIBLY EXCESSIVE RAINFALL RATES...THROUGH WEDNESDAY. STORM

  TOTAL RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE WESTERN

  CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA...WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS

  POSSIBLE IN AREAS REPEATEDLY AFFECTED BY THUNDERSTORMS.

 

* STREAM AND CREEK FLOODING MAY DEVELOP FROM THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL

  RATES AT ANY TIME DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. RIVER LEVELS

  WILL ALSO INCREASE FROM EACH ROUND OF RAINFALL...WITH MAIN STEM

  RIVER FLOODING BECOMING MORE LIKELY BY WEDNESDAY.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

RAINFALL OF MORE THAN FIVE INCHES IN SIMILAR STORMS HAS BEEN

ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASED RISK OF LANDSLIDES AND ROCK SLIDES.

IF YOU LIVE ON A MOUNTAINSIDE OR IN A COVE AT THE BASE OF A

MOUNTAIN...ESPECIALLY NEAR A STREAM...BE READY TO LEAVE IN

ADVANCE OF THE STORM OR AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SHOULD RISING

WATER...MOVING EARTH...OR ROCKS THREATEN. CONSIDER POSTPONING

TRAVEL ALONG MOUNTAIN ROADS DURING THE PERIOD OF HEAVY RAINFALL.

 

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD

TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION

SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
