Municipal Election filing begins Friday
Filing opens Friday, July 5 at the Rutherford County Board of Elections for candidates seeking a town council seats.
Filing opens at 12 p.m. and closes on Friday, July 19 at 12 p.m. at the Board of Elections off Old Fairground Road in Spindale.
Mayors and town board members in the county's eight municipalities — Bostic, Chimney Rock, Ellenboro, Forest City, Ellenboro, Lake Lure, Ruth, Rutherfordton and Spindale — whose terms end in November 2013 are up for re-election.
Mayoral terms ending in 2013 are Bostic Mayor Mitch Harrill, Forest City Mayor Dennis Tarlton, Lake Lure Mayor Bob Keith, Ruth Mayor Don Baynard, Rutherfordton Mayor Jimmy Dancy and Spindale Mayor Mickey Bland.
Mayoral terms ending in 2015 are Barbara Meliski in Chimney Rock and Jim Rhyne, Ellenboro mayor.
Members of town council up for re-election are:
Bostic — Mike Hollifield, Billy Lattimore and Rodger Hall;
Chimney Rock Village — Frank Campbell and Bob Wald;
Ellenboro — Lee Allen, Bunt Black, Mike Rhyne;
Forest City — Steve Holland, Shawn Moore;
Lake Lure — Mary Ann Nesbitt Dotson, John Moore;
Ruth — Mike Ellenburg, Chris Adkins;
Rutherfordton — Terry Cobb, Stanley Clements;
Spindale — Tommy Hardin and Ed Searcy.
Ruth Commissioner Adkins is filling the unexpired term of the late Jim Goode and the term is up for re-election.
Municipal Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
