Shutting down drug operations
LAKE LURE — Lake Lure Police Chief Sean Humphries presented four of his officers with prestigious Region C awards during the Region C Law Enforcement Advisory Committee's meeting at Larkin's On The Lake in Lake Lure on Tuesday.
Humphries commended Corporal Cory Hill, Patrolman Zach Walker, Patrolman Andy Greenway and Sergeant Chris Shuford for their quick response to information received in reference to a local narcotics dealer.
The information led to an investigation and subsequent arrest and shut down of an illegal marijuana indoor growing operation in Lake Lure.
Officers discovered 20 marijuana plants in the seedling stage during their investigation.
"The thing that stands out most about the impressive job these officers did was the timing in which they completed their goal and the message that was sent out to others that might be engaged in similar activities," Humphries said.
The suspect arrested was charged with felony manufacturing of marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling to manufacture marijuana, felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.
"The suspect had only been in town for three months and his operation was barely underway when this crew shut him down," Humphries said. "This was truly a team effort from the entire crew."
