Airport Authority will discuss waterline construction; hangar building
The Rutherford County Airport Authority will discuss the ongoing proposal from Broad River Water Authority to extend water lines along Oscar Justice Road and to the airport property, when it meets at the airport at 5:30 p.m. today.
Authority chair Bob Howard said the authority will vote whether to proceed with the project.
When BRWA met for it regular meeting last month, the board talked about the potential water line project near the airport.
Maria Hunnicutt, executive director of BRWA, said letters were mailed to homeowners/landowners/hangar owners earlier in October, but there were few responses. However, she said due to the strategic advantage of the airport, additional contacts were being made with owners in the area of Oscar Justice Road and Airport Road.
She said one homeowner had taken the project on personally and was going to make contacts with numerous homeowners in the area to see if there is enough interest for the waterline construction.
Also Tuesday, the authority will discuss the possibility of constructing another hangar at the airport; the building of a walking trail; will talk about the containment facility; a Fixed Based Operator proposal; and will also receive information from Shell Oil receiving a fuel contract.
Howard said the airport authority is in the process of finding ways "to generate money . . .to grow the airport" that will benefit the taxpayers of Rutherford County.
