Officers find a fugitive, weapon and drugs
Early Tuesday morning, Corporal Cory Hill and Reserve Officer Ryan Bailey with the Lake Lure Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by James Jasper Beach Jr., 35, of Carson Drive in Gaffney, and his passenger, John David Witherspoon, 37.
Hill sighted a gun in the middle console, and Beach and Witherspoon were promptly removed from the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, Hill discovered and seized drug paraphernalia, scales and methamphetamine belonging to Beach.
The weapon found also belonged to Beach, who did not have a concealed carry weapons permit.
Beach was placed under arrest and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a $10,000 secured bond for his charges.
Hill also conducted a warrant check on Beach and Witherspoon wherein he discovered an outstanding warrant for Witherspoon. The warrant was issued in Cleveland County for breaking and entering.
Beach and Witherspoon were placed in the custody of the Rutherford County Detention Center.
Witherspoon awaits extradition to Cleveland County.
