Lake Lure Police Department awards Officer Zach Walker

LAKE LURE — At a Lake Lure Police Department dinner held Dec.  6 for officers and their families, Chief Eric Hester awarded Officer Zach Walker with the Top Physical Fitness Award and the The Mayor Jack Powell Top Gun Award. 

The award of Top Physical Fitness is given to the officer who completes the yearly Police Officer Physical Agility Training (P.O.P.A.T.) with the quickest time. Officer Walker completed this strenuous test with a time of 3 minutes and 45 seconds. The national record is 3 minutes and 17 seconds. 

The Mayor Jack Powell Top Gun Award is given to the officer who receives the highest score in a firearm course that includes combat training with rifle and handgun during Lake Lure Police Department's annual yearly qualification. Officer Walker received the highest score with an average of 99.75.
