Hot Nights, Cool Rides; Lake Lure Olympiad and Dirty Dancing Festival highlight weekend

Custom built Rat Rods, decked out motorcycles, antique Model T’s and classic Mustangs are just a few of the 400+ vehicles to line Downtown Forest City on Saturday for judges to score and car lovers to compare. 

Live music will kick off the day with performances by the Jack Roper Band, Rocky Yelton and the Hired Guns and concluding with the Night Moves Band. The classic American restaurants that line the street and outdoor grilling will keep you energized throughout the day along with the tempting aromas of kettle corn, funnel cakes and fried Oreos. 

The event is sponsored by the Forest City Merchants Association and is open to the public and free to attend. All ages are welcome. Car registration is $25.

Registration begins Friday from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Lake Lure Olmpiad, Dirty Dancing Festival

LAKE LURE —  Running, swimming, cycling and dancing are happening in Lake Lure this weekend.

The 10th annual Lake Lure Olympiad three-day sports festival is happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the same weekend as the 5th annual Dirty Dancing Festival at Lake Lure.

Since the festivals' event schedules compliment each other, attendees to either festival could easily attend both. 


6 p.m. – Lake Lure Olympiad Opening Ceremonies, Rumbling Bald;

Couch to Cart Path 2-Mile Run 10K Dam Run. There are games for the kids and free ice cream sundaes for all.

8 p.m. – Dirty Dancing Festival Free Lakeside Film Screening,

Switch gears and top the night off with a free, lakeside film screening of “Dirty Dancing” at Morse Park Meadows.


8 a.m. – Lake Lure Triathlon

9 a.m. Junior Olympiad, The Beach at Rumbling Bald Resort

Obstacle Course

(ages 4-14)

9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dirty Dance Festival “Family Dance & Music Festival”

“Family Dance & Music Festival” and take a dance lesson or two, practice moves to some live 1960s soul music; watermelon race and kids run with a watermelon, and witness the renowned “Lake Lift Competition.” 


7:30 a.m. Lake Lure Olympiad’s Race to the Rock

Close out the weekend in true athletic fashion with the Race to the Rock – a 5 kilometer run or 25 mile bike with a final three mile climb up to the top of Chimney Rock.

The Dirty Dancing Festival at Lake Lure

Attracting visitors from 24 states and two foreign countries, the Dirty Dancing Festival at Lake Lure is a dance and music festival for all ages that pays tribute to the classic American movie filmed right here in Lake Lure.

About the 10th annual Lake Lure Olympiad

The Lake Lure Olympiad, presented by Rumbling Bald Resort and Rutherford Regional Health System with Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park. Since 2005, the non-profit sports festival has contributed nearly $250,000 to area charities.

The fun starts Friday at 6 p.m. with BBQ on the beach, Couch to Cart Path 2-Mile Run and Lake Lure Ski Club performance. Opening ceremonies start at 7 p.m. with the Lighting of the Torch, fun games for kids, free ice cream sundae and completion of the 10K Dam Run.
