Three file for municipal office

Two incumbent aldermen in Ellenboro and a political newcomer in Chimney Rock Village have filed for seats on their respective town councils.

Filing for re-election on Wednesday was Lee Allen of Webb Church Road in Ellenboro. Filing Thursday were Ellenboro incumbent Mike Rhyne and Bruce Godzik, filing for office on the Chimney Rock Village Council. Godzikis a business owner in Chimney Rock.

On Monday, Mary Ann Dotson-Silvey, Lake Lure, Brett Hooper of Spindale, Steven Webber of Lake Lure and Mike Hollifield of Bostic filed for office.

Dotson-Silvey and Hollifield filed for re-election in their respective towns.

Hopper and Steven Webber filed for their first terms of office.

Bostic Mayor Mitch Harrill, whose term ends in November, has not filed for re-election, although five other mayors have.

Mayors Don Baynard (Ruth), Mickey Bland (Spindale), Jimmy Dancy (Rutherfordton), Bob Keith (Lake Lure) and Dennis Tarlton (Forest City) met at the Board of Elections on Old Fairground Road in Spindale promptly at noon to file for re-election together on opening day of municipal filing.

Other town council members filing for re-election last Friday included Stanley Clements and Terry Cobb of Rutherfordton, Steve Holland and Shawn Moore of Forest City, Mike Ellenburg and Chris Adkins of Ruth and John Moore of Lake Lure.

Other town board members up for re-election in 2013 include:

Bostic — Billy Lattimore and Rodger Hall;

Chimney Rock Village — Frank Campbell and Robert Wald;

Ellenboro — Allen Black;

Spindale — Tommy Hardin and Ed Searcy.

For candidates seeking town council seats, filing for municipal elections closes on Friday, July 19 at noon.

Municipal election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
