State unemployment changes slightly
The state unemployment rate for North Carolina remained relatively unchanged in December.
According to a report released Friday by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the state's unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage point to 9.2 percent for December 2012.
The national rate remained unchanged at 7.8 percent.
By comparison, the state's rate was 1.2 percentage points lower than December 2011.
Overall, the number of those employed in the state increased by 10,398 to 4,314,479 over the month and increased by 121,487 over the year.
On the same token, the number of people unemployed increased 6,997 over the month to 438,864 but, decreased 45,380 over the year.
The December 2012 unemployment rate marked the 11th month the state has unemployment under 10 percent and the sixth month in a year where the rate has been below 9.5 percent.
