Christmas Cheer Center helps 1,016 children in 2012

FOREST CITY — The Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Center assisted 1,016 children with toys, stockings and gifts through the 2012 cheer center, said Salvation Army’s Annie Elrod-Oberle on Thursday afternoon.

In addition, 534 families received assistance, 55 senior citizens and 236 inmates also received gift bags and toiletries. The Grace of God Rescue Mission also received toiletries.

The food not distributed during the cheer center, was given to the Storehouse Pantry and also to the Salvation Army Thrift Store for distribution on a regular basis.  

Salvation Army’s Annie Elrod-Oberle said in addition to the families, there were 1,016 children served, 55 senior citizens and 236 inmates received gift bags.

Major Cherry Craddock of the Salvation Army said she thanks the people of Rutherford County for always stepping up to give to children and families at Christmas.

Christmas 2012 represents Craddock’s final Christmas since she is retiring.
