Named to Utilities Commission

Christopher J. Ayers, a Rutherford County native, was sworn-in as Executive Director of the North Carolina Utilities Commission Public Staff on July 1 for a six-year term. He will lead the state agency that represents the using and consuming public in cases before the Utilities Commission, including electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water and sewer and transportation utility cases.  

Ayers is a Rutherford County native and graduated from R-S Central High School in 1995. He graduated from Duke University in 1999 and received his law degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2002.

Following law school, Ayers clerked for Judge Linda McGee at the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He joined the law firm of Hunton & Williams in 2003, where he began practicing utilities law.  In 2009, Chris became a partner at the law firm of Poyner Spruill in Raleigh.

Ayers is married to Rebecca Ayers and they reside in Apex. His parents, Jim and Mary Ayers, reside in Gilkey.
