Ten educators and supporters of education were inducted into the Rutherford County Schools Hall of Fame during a gala Saturday night in Forest City, sponsored by the Rutherford County Schools Education Foundation.

More than 300 people, including some of the inductees, family members and friends, attended the event, held at the Carolina Event and Conference Center, to honor the inaugural hall of fame members.

Inducted into the 2013 RCS Hall of Fame were teachers Albert B. Bushong, Dee C. Cole, Jane S. Flack, Henrietta C. Twitty; administrators J.J. Tarlton, Forrest W. Hunt, Roger T. Petty; school supporters Robert McNair, Janice McNair, and Dr. Bobby England. Their plaques are displayed in the meeting room of the Rutherford County Board of Education at the administrative office on West Main Street in Forest City.

The nomination process began in October of 2012 with RCS Education Foundation members nominating teachers/administrators, support personnel, and school supporters. It culminated on April 13 with the formal induction of the 10 teachers, administrators, and supporters being inducted as the first class of the hall of fame.

The inductees combined for nearly half a millennium of service years to the students of Rutherford County Schools and were honored during the celebration ceremonies. Each inductee now has a historical plaque placed in the RCS Hall-of-Fame located in the Rutherford County Schools Board of Education Auditorium. All inductees were presented a crystal award and were recognized with documentary videos highlighting their careers and years of service.

Saturday night's gala was presented by the Rutherford County Schools Education Foundation and was made possible by contributions from Rutherford Regional Health Systems, Gardner Webb University, Washburn Real Estate Inc., Facebook Data Center, Pierce Group Benefits, Main Street Financial, Matt and DeeDee Bright/Griffith & Griffith Dentistry, The Mike and Gail Parton Family Foundation, and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
