The Ballad of Lunkerville
FOREST CITY— Former Rutherford County resident, Rick (Luke) Lucas has written a song that will air on the World Fishing Network (WFN) on Friday.
Lucas wrote the song for the fishing show Lunkerville, an award-winning reality television show.
"I adore fishing. I always have. I found it on television and it is a real fishing show," Lucas said. "It is not 30 fish in 30 minutes. He fishes at a different place every week with normal people like you and me."
According to the show's website, host Mike de Avila "Mike D" casts his line everyday with, recreational bass fishermen, traveling to their secret spots and sharing their special techniques.
"I really liked the show because it was honest. I sat down and starting writing the song with no intention of it being on television. I was just hoping that I would get the chance to fish with Mike D," Lucas said. "I put the song on the show's Facebook and he sent me back a message and told me that he could not get it out of his head."
Lucas says that Mike called him and said they were going to air the song, entitled "The Ballad of Lunkerville." A shortened version of the song will air at 10:30 p.m. during Lunkerville on WFN and NBC Sports Network.
"This is huge to me. I am off the ground about it," Lucas said. "The song didn't take me long to write. I just sat down one day and started writing it. After about an hour, I got stuck on the third verse, but my girlfriend Linda gave me a good line. So if it wasn't for her I would not have finished it."
Lucas currently lives in Ohio where he performs his music at local coffee shops. His son and other family members still live in Rutherford County.
