FOREST CITY — Rutherford County Arts Council has announced auditions for “Polly Wolly Doodle- A Patchwork of Southern Songs and Stories” by Diane McEnnerney.

The new musical will audition Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m., at the Maple Street Center (old Rutherfordton Elementary School).  The auditions are open to people of all ages and no previous experience is necessary.  Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the performances will be the week of March 22.

The played is based on several traditional Southern story-songs like “Oh Sussana” and “Froggy Went A Courtin’.”  It also includes a Southern retelling of the classic Anderson fairy tale, “Thumbelina.”  The production includes speaking parts, soloists, and a chorus which will both sing the choral arrangements and move in traditional ring and square dance patterns.

The play will be directed by Matthew McEnnerney, with musical direction by Diane McEnnerney and choreography by Lynne Tanner.
