Swearing-in ceremonies Monday night
Oaths of office will be administered to Forest City Mayor Dennis Tarlton and Commissioners Steve Holland and Shawn Moore at the regular meeting of Town Council Monday night at Cool Springs Administrative Office.
A reception for the newly elected officials begins at 5:30 p.m. to be followed by the regular business meeting.
Tarlton, Holland and Moore ran unopposed in the Nov. 5 Municipal Election for their bid to return to the town board in Forest City.
The three elected officials will have an opportunity to address staff, board members and the public after the swearing in ceremonies.
After the organizational business, council will receive information from Chris White regarding the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League.
At the Nov. 18 meeting, council received information from the Forest City Little League.
There are funds in the town budget for the Little League program but the funds have not been dispersed, pending decisions by council.
Council will also discuss the relocation and expansion of the Rutherford County Farmers Market.
Rutherford County staff members, the Cooperative Extension Service and the Town of Forest City have conducted an in-house study on the feasibility of moving the farmers market outdoor structure from the U.S.74A location to the Depot Street parking lot adjacent to the Florence Mill.
The project's steering committee is recommending the farmers market be moved for the 2014 market season.
The Town of Forest City will recommend in its final report that the county be responsible for the additional cost to upgrade the exterior of the market after it is moved.
The committee will also continue to explore the re-use of the 1922 Warehouse as an indoor market and agriculture complex.
The gift of the former Food Lion building, off Oak Street, will also be discussed Monday night. The building will be given to the Town of Forest City if council desires, but they will pay the taxes and revenue stamps.
A decision regarding the building is expected to be made at Monday's meeting.
