ELLENBORO — Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance at Ellenboro Elementary school for Story Time with Santa on Thursday.

Parents and students filled the gym and listened to Mrs. Claus read the classic story "The Night Before Christmas."

After the story, students munched on cookies and milk, made their own Christmas crafts and got their picture taken with Santa. Parents were given tips on how to work with their children on reading at home.

"This is a fun event to have. It is nice to have a warm, fuzzy night," said Tammie Ash, assistant principal. "We really are a community, so it is about having a good time together."

Sophia Sneed played Mrs. Claus for the evening. Her daughter is a teacher at the school.

"This was an experience. It is just exciting to see the children. It is a giving time of year and this is something that I can give back. It is a good opportunity for me to spread goodwill" Sneed said. "Plus it looks amazing in the school. From the decorations and the work the teachers have out into this you can tell they love their children and love what they do."

Principal Bill Bass said that the event was a great way to get parents involved in the school and what their children are learning.

"We are pleased to see all of the parents who have come out tonight. Anytime we can have parent involvement is great. Ultimately, this is about reading but it is also about having some fun," Bass said.
