Impaired driver wrecks moped — again
A 39-year-old Bostic man sustained significant injuries in a moped wreck Saturday on Hollis Road, reported the North Carolina Highway Patrol (NCHP).
Ricky Dennis Wright was driving a moped north on Hollis Road when he went off the road and traveled into a field.
Sgt. Joel Williams of the NCHP said Wright was “extremely impaired” when he crashed the moped. He was transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Hospital officials said he was released Sunday.
“He has been charged numerous times with DWI,” Williams said.
The law allows drivers to operate a moped regardless of the number of DWI charges.
Assisting at the scene were Rutherford County EMS and Ellenboro Fire Department.
Williams there were numerous wrecks over the weekend in Rutherford County, but Wright’s wreck was the most serious regarding injuries.
