Sunday was officially the first day of Fall and one family is ready to provide community members with items that are essential for this time of year.

Church's Greenhouse in Ellenboro opened its doors on Monday offering pumpkins, mums, corn stalks, Indian corn, mini guards and decorative Fall items. It is owned by Jeff and Christy Church and Jeff's father, Pete Church.

"This has always been my passion and I've always wanted to do this," Christy said. "My husband (Jeff) did it for me for me to be able to do what I want to do."

The group got started by purchasing a greenhouse from Stanley Wilkie of Wilkie's Greenhouse. They began working to put together an office and the greenhouse in December of 2012.

"We were open for a little in the Spring last year, but this is the first Fall we have been open," Pete Church said. "The office is an old gas house. My son works for Carolina Energy and after they closed the gas house they were just going to junk it. So he moved it here for the office."

The greenhouse offers the pumpkins and mums at a variety of different prices depending on their size. The smallest ones begin at two for $1 and the bigger ones are $6. They have seven different colors of mums. The business will be open Monday-Friday from 1:30-5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. or by appointment.

"We're ready for Fall," Pete said.

Christy said her vision is for the greenhouse to grow enough to have more children's activities. They are already working on construction of the second greenhouse and a seed house that will be open in the spring.

"My vision is to have more greenhouses up here. It's also far enough back off the road where people can bring their kids up here," Christy said. "Especially in the Fall, I would love to be able to leave the pumpkins in the field and for them to be able to go out there together and pick out pumpkins. We would also love to do hay rides for the kids."

She says that the business is a work in progress and she is continually working to improve it.

"It will grow and I'm very excited about that," Christy said.
